Levy Board Points to Mutual Benefits of 2013 Fixture List
Commenting on the publication today of the 2013 Fixture List, Levy Board Chief Executive Douglas Erskine-Crum said:
“The 2013 Fixture List will help further the relationship between Racing and Betting by prioritising the staging of racing at times within the Levy Board’s Fixture Criteria. The 2013 schedule reflects a better informed basis for decisions than has sometimes been the case.
“The Levy Board’s membership of the BHA’s new Fixture Review Group helped to reaffirm the importance of the Fixture Criteria in optimising the overall income to Racing.
“Among new Levy Board initiatives for 2013 were to reward racecourses for moving certain self-funded fixtures into vacant Criteria slots and to encourage the staging of a third fixture on midweek summer Festival days, such as the Tuesdays of Royal Ascot and Glorious Goodwood.
“There will now be a joined-up review of current fixture allocation arrangements, the race programme and distribution policies. The Levy Board looks forward to working with others in this process, having in mind our statutory objective to apply funds for the improvement of horseracing.”
