Levy Scheme for 2011/12 Referred to Government for Determination
The Horserace Betting Levy Board and the Bookmakers’ Committee have not reached agreement on the terms of the 50th Levy Scheme (1st April 2011 to 31st March 2012).
After extensive discussions between interested parties in recent days, the Board met again this afternoon. After further discussion, all parties concluded at 11.30pm that there was no realistic possibility of agreement being reached by midnight.
The Scheme will therefore be referred to the Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport for determination.
Levy Board Chairman Paul Lee said:
“It is very disappointing that it has not proved possible to reach agreement on the 50th Scheme. Despite protracted and in-depth discussion at Board meetings and elsewhere, ultimately the positions of Racing and the Bookmakers’ Committee remained significantly apart.”
