The Horserace Betting Levy Board collects an annual levy from the horseracing business of betting operators and distributes it in accordance with the organisation’s statutory responsibilities.
Reporting to the Chief Executive, the Operations Manager will oversee the distribution and delivery of Levy Board funding for the improvement of horseracing. In 2018, this is expected to include some £57m for prize money and around £20m of other funding directly related to the staging of fixtures.
The Operations Manager will lead in the management and implementation of distribution and monitoring policies to ensure effectiveness of the expenditure and, where appropriate, a measurable return on investment. The post holder will also be expected to initiate and maintain constructive and trusted working relationships with key individuals in the horseracing and betting industries and to develop collaborative initiatives to increase Levy yield.
The ideal candidate will be highly numerate, with exceptional personal integrity and significant
experience at senior operational management level. An understanding and appreciation of horseracing and betting will be essential.
The appointment will be made on a fixed term basis until April 2019, in recognition of Government’s plans to transfer the Levy Board’s distributive functions to a newly-formed Racing Authority on that date. It is anticipated that the role will then transfer to the Racing Authority.
